Indeed, it would appear that the brand name has become synonymous to premium product design and quality, and for good reason, too. After all, no one can dispute how Steve Jobs made sure that Apple, with its ambitious and innovative industrial-design team, became a trailblazer when it comes to consumer electronics’ design. If you were to ask what sets Apple products above its competitors, the answer would be “design”.Case in point: Apple products have now become icons and even symbols of popular culture. The great attention to detail tha t Apple puts into its products â€" yes, even the tiniest detail â€" is proof of how much time the design team devotes in every single aspect of the product design.Crafting of Apple products is done inside and out, with no stones left unturned, so to speak. From the circuit boards to the elegant finish, nothing is left to chance. In the Steve Jobs bio written by Walter Isaacson, Jobs touched on this ideal, relating a lesson he learned from his father about a carpenter who is making an elegant chest of drawers. The carpenter knows better than to use plain and cheap plywood on the back of the chest, for the simple reason that no one is going to see it anyway. The carpenter will still know that the plywood is there.In the context of Apple products, Jobs and his team will know that they did not pay much attention to the details and did not craft the product properly, even if the users do not. Fortunately, this is not an outlook that Apple cultivates, as it devotes its design efforts to e nsure that quality is integrated on all sides. These things should not â€" and must not â€" be done halfheartedly.Connect with the customerThis abstract talks about the role of customer behavior in relation with product design. Empathy, or establishing an intimate connection with the customers and, in the process, gaining deeper understanding of what they feel, what they want, and what they need, is vital in the design process. Apple takes this seriously, with the conviction that it understands its users’ needs better than any other manufacturer or similar company out there.Companies such as Panasonic and Sony are known to make products without putting the customers at the center. It is either the customers will buy them or not. Apple, on the other hand, made sure that it understood what the customers wanted. They integrated those feelings, desires or needs into the product design and, once they released the finished product, the customers will finally realize that they need that specific Apple product.Focus on what you are doingWhile designing, it is easy to get distracted by other opportunities that may or may be unrelated to the product being worked on. Jobs ensures that, once they have decided to work on something, they will devote 100% of their attention to that product or project. Everything else will fall by the wayside, either ignored or simply left to be picked up at a later date, most likely when the product being worked on has been finished.Jobs was known as a taskmaster, bringing focus and discipline to his product teams. In his mind, he already knew what product will result â€" what it looks like and what it can do â€" and he refused to be swayed by any deviation, in any way or form. Users, too, need not undergo education and re-education, as the case may be, on several of the technologies, in order to operate or use the products. Product quality was never really in question when it came to Apple, but what of its design? What is it about the Apple design that makes it a cut above the rest? Let’s take a look at some of its defining traits.Simplicity and minimalisticWhen it comes to UI, Apple products have some of the friendliest and simplest out there. This is in acknowledgement of the fact that complex designs tend to overwhelm users, especially those who are relatively new to technology. By making the product look simple â€" and actually be simple â€" users are able to easily get over these fears and apprehensions.The intuitive nature of the Apple UI is one of the main reasons why it commands such loyalty from users, even when the price tag remains steep. At first, many were suspicious about a high-tech product that is simple. It just does not seem fea sible. This is actually very comme ndable since, for the longest time, simple has always been equated with plain and boring. However, many overlook the actual design process. This is not a mistake that Apple makes, though, since it boasts a design method that can only be described as “well-structured”. A design team only has around 12 to 20 people, and this limit is advantageous in terms of keeping the team focused. It is definitely much harder to manage a team with a lot of people, since there will be a lot of ideas flying around, no matter how tough of a taskmaster the team leader is.There is also the fact that the design process is not a standalone division within the company. There is a need to factor in how the design process will ultimately impact, or relate to, other aspects of the business, such as the production process, the engineers, marketing and sales and distribution. By keeping the team small, the design process will be much more manageable.Apple also has the following tips in order to have a great design for your product.Quality above all: Do not just focus on the packaging, or the number of features you packed into your product. The most important question is: does the product work according to users’ expectations? Do they deliver the functions that users are looking for? Apple puts emphasis on the overall customer experience; customer service, after-sales support, and even retail sales service. However, all that would be for nothing when the product design itself is of low quality. This also includes making sure you use high quality materials on the product.Be flexible when it comes to change: This is apparent in how Apple is willing to put its products through successive design iterations, doing away with the old to make way for the new. Change is constant, and it is even more fast-paced when it comes to technology. In order to ensure that your product design is abreast of the changing times and climes, you have to embrace them as they come, and integrate them into your design process.If you could, stay ahead of the pack: Apple has the advantage of being in control of both hardware and software, and its own technologies. This means that it is able to deliver products t hat are timely and will be compatible with the latest and newest technologies in the market. This level of control pretty much gives you a lot of freedom when working on product designs over time.Be innovative: What can you offer in your product that no one has ever done yet? Aim to be a pioneer. That’s what Steve Jobs did, and look where Apple is right now.Take your time: Rushing the product design stage proved to be more of a pitfall than a success point for many manufacturers. Many have gone this route, particularly those who are aiming for a specific release date for their product. More often than not, this results to “half-baked” products. Apple spends a considerable length of time in the design stage of its product development, and this was another philosophy passed down by Steve Jobs.Don’t be afraid to take risks: Nothing is a sure thing. Even Apple knows this. With every product it designs and plans to introduce to the market, it is taking a risk. It’s making a gam ble that may or may not pay off. But it should not be done recklessly, either. Take risks, as long as you have all your bases covered, and you have conducted all the necessary feasibility and viability studies.Understand the product: Just because you are tasked to work on the design does not mean that you should focus solely on it. The best option as far as this theory and test go is to accept Syrian refugees as it is the right thing to do and is just in its cause. Another theory that can be applied when considering whether or not to accept refugees is the Communitarian or Community-based theory. This theory states that rather than basing the ethicality of a situation off of an individuals happiness or the utility generated to the greatest number of people and centering it on the rights of individuals over the rights of the whole, the moral thinking within a community has a source in the historical traditions of it. This theory focuses on the idea of common good or shared value that a community embodies. Step one of this test asks to identify what specific parts of the common good are involved. For one, family, social, educational, and health care systems are all required for human growth, development, and happiness. On the other hand, a functioning government, peace, and legal systems are required for the production of goods and services as well as economic development. These are all parts of the common good that will be impacted by the introd uction of Syrian refugees into the American culture. With Syrian refugees coming into the United States, they will be provided with more opportunities to help grow not only their families and learn more about the lives of American citizens, but those citizens will also be provided with the opportunity to learn more about them, their culture, as well as their religion. Though terrorists have a variety of mechanisms for entering the United States, the intense and distant refugee screening process make it one of the least likely mechanisms for doing so. Citizens have a right to know how the United States screens potential refugees and what steps it takes to ensure that a potential wrongdoer is not among their ranks. States can and should consult with federal authorities to coordinate the placement of refugees in an effort to provide the best possible placement for them. But it is clear that the role of the state is to consult upon, not to appro ve the placement of these refugees. Humanitarian arguments aside, strong as they may be, states must permit the placement of refugees because they are part of a republic that has obligations to the international community. While governors indicate their acceptance of the legal order in a state of exception, it is important to note that a state of exception perpetuates anomie, which only serves to make chaos out of life; what kind of life is definable as more chaotic and anomic than the life of a refugee? Google’s corporate mantra simply put - â€Å"Don’t be evil† (Google), is what drives their corporate ethics in doing business. Being the data juggernaut that they are, questionable business ethics arise often in relation to privacy. In 2007, Google’s controversy regarding Street View raised privacy and security concerns. Street View allows for high-resolution photos enabling you to explore 360-degree panoramic, street-level imagery of places once you type in the correct address. This could range from vehicle license plates, properties, people doing mundane activities, as well as people in compromising or out-of-context situations. Apparently, these are what we all are agreeing on when we are being asked to agree to terms upon joining a wireless network. Scooping data at the back of your truck from concealed WiFi receivers is a different story though. Weather it was an engineer’s fault for the said code to have saved the unencrypted information causing the entire fiasco, it’s still questionable how this kind of an overlooked management decision, could’ve slipped a big company like Google. This is the same water that makes its way into our wells, and finally into our mouths. Furthermore, more than half of the wastewater used in the fracking process is flowed directly into a ready-made reservoir pits that sit in wait for evaporation. This wastewater gradually sinks into the ground, for the evaporation takes quite some time. The health risks posed by this dangerously hazardous output of pollution into our drinking water and nearby waterways is widely felt. Water quickly turns to metallic mush, goes black, and even becomes flammable in other cases. Fracking is upsetting the way of life for so many out there and yet they still refuse to answer for these wrongdoings. Part A: The approaches to ethics and social responsibility Employees of a global company such as MKD need to adhere to the companies’ regulations as well as guidelines regarding ethical behavior and responsibility. The various ethical behaviors that are exercised by MKD towards their employees include, abiding to the law. With regards to the oil spill, the employees of the company are required to take the required measures that will ensure that the damages of the oil spills are minimized, this will enable the company to adhere to environmental laws as well as prevent the occurrence of law suits and government fines. The employees of the company are also required to be responsible for their actions regardless of whether the actions are positive or negative. The employees in this case are required to take responsibility after the oil spill before it causes more damage. They are also required by the management to ensure that they keep the environment clean as they carry out their organizational activities. I am touched by the meaning of these values and practices since I am sort of new to this kind of environment. Now I know why this Institution Is prestigious and s being looked up by other people – it’s because of the values they teach coupled with the quality education they offer. Going to Xavier University is an experience I will never ever forget; It’s not about the name that the school carries; It’s not about how seemingly glamorous you are when you walk down the streets wearing the school uniform; it’s not about being classy and smart all at the same time, it’s because here, they focus more on shaping you on to becoming the best of you, in service for others, the country and for God. In this school, I became a person for others. The first four months Vie spent here In Xavier are four months filled with vibrant colors and unforgettable shades. With its cheerful and Christ-centered aura, I knew that I was called here for a cause. The moment I stepped into the school with only a few steps away from becoming an official student, gleeful faces surrounded the university and seemingly elder students are trying their very best to make us feel at home. Successfully, I felt at home, it’s as if I’ve been to this place before. Despite the air being sizzling and all, lye managed to enjoy my stay and tried my best to be as listen as I could. One things for sure that in college: it’s definitely not the same with high school and you should practice being Independent and work harder. I found out that no matter how hardworking you are and excelled somehow In high school; some of it might change in college if you’ve changed in a slightly different way. If I could 1 OFF what I have now; I should’ve scanned for more rather than being contented by what is offered inside the walls from different classrooms; I should’ve spent a lot more time studying rather than focusing on some other activities, I should’ve practiced magic long the way. I don’t want to sound as if my life is full of regrets, but, I also don’t want to repeat some of the things Vie encountered this semester, literally. I believe that everything happens for a reason and God has plans, that God has a specific reason why things happen. With me on my weakest point was God – he was there and helped me through my obstacle. I told him that I would rise back and give my foremost power to be a good son for him. Despite the heavy load Vie carried along the pathway, I can say that being in here t the same time makes the load go away. Here, students are taught to be concerned for the environment and as well as the community. Sincerely, I was Just thrilled and excited at the thought that I would become a person for others; someone who’s willing to sacrifice and give others a hand. Who wouldn’t want that? So, I grabbed the chance. Also, thanks to the OFF 10 subject, I developed my prayer life. Being able to attend the prayer session workshop was an event I will carry across my heart for the rest of my life. It was Just life-changing! Indeed, everything happens for a reason. Going to Manners and experiencing the calming and peaceful atmosphere was fantastic. There, I met new friends and strengthen my connection with God. Furthermore, visiting the magnificent divine mercy along with my block mates was another remarkable event during this semester. It was my first time to visit the beautiful place and it was special, for me, that I’m with them. Being able to pray together and Just being peaceful with each other plus the silent and tranquil ambiance, the event turned out to be as splendid as I imagined. With all the activities that packed us into a strong and compelling group, the formation groups that shaped me into who I am today, the bonding I had with other people, I found myself sharing pieces of my life to each and every one of them. I am also glad that Vie picked bits of life lessons from people Vie met along the course. We are all men and women for each other. The semester can’t be complete without this significant and fun-filled activity that we had in Consolation Elementary School. Smiles and laughter of children roared round the campus of their school when all of the students under OFF arrived at their destination. It was nice seeing young Filipinos that are lively, enthusiastic and carries potentials on becoming great people someday. Witnessing them enjoy the activities we’ve prepared makes me want to relive my younger years. I can now feel the sentiment of an adult. We planned on including the national anthem during the opening part of our little program with the kids, but, they proceeded in reciting the patriotic vows of our country! We were quite stunned, but hey, they got the Filipino parity in them. Of course, we tried our very best to entertain them and stand in front of them as role models. There, I realized how crucial everything can be when handling children. You must always set a very good example for them to follow, if we want to see a bright and harmonious tomorrow ahead of us. We served them food and drinks to complete this one of a kind experience. It was clear through their eyes that they had fun as much as we did and it totally feels good to make them happy. Happiness despite being buried by heavy load. In little ways, I served my fellow Monterrey by bringing Joy to their young and youthful hearts. Being helpful and concerned for the welfare of others is something that bursts out from within you. It can’t be Just taught inside the classroom and the ideas are left, trapped within the four walls. You shape your own life with the guide of God through his own creations. You become a person for others if you believe that you already are and you should act what you perceive. As I close one chapter of my story here in Xavier University, I hope that the following chapters will be as bright as the sun. The heaper did mold me into becoming the product of what the school had envisioned its students to become: men and women for others. I became closer to God and I should serve him as my father and ultimate creator; I contributed small things to other people’s lives and became a part of theirs as much as they are also a part of mine; I indulged myself into setting a good example for my young fellow countrymen to follow. In the process, my life was filled with ups and downs – a sign that I am alive and I will continue to do what Vie started. And that is how I became a person for others.
